I mean, REALLY? Is that just some fairytale people tell you? You know, the kind of concept that falls in the category: “if it sounds too good to be true..it usually is.” Well, I wanted to know what’s the truth. It was the beginning of 2008 when I went on a personal mission to find it out. Nomad Couch is the place where I want to share what I learned. But before I get started, you might want to know a little more about what’s going on in here. So here goes.
Who Is Juha?
Hi there, my name is Juha Liikala. I would currently describe myself as being a semi-location independent professional. I run a business that’s 100% nomadic, but I’m also working on a corporate job full-time (I’m a web developer & consultant). Right now, I’m using the money I get from my day job to support my entrepreneurial passions on the evenings. When the day comes that I can support my current way of life through my own business, that’s the day I’m making the leap – to a full-time nomadic entrepreneur. Still have to keep jumping “on both sides” for a while though. But it’s getting closer by the day!
I’ve always felt that there is way more to life than just the traditional educate-build a career-retire-die -cycle. While there’s nothing (much) wrong with that track of life, not many people seem to question that either. It’s the way life goes, right? A normal life. I started this site because I wanted to talk to you about an alternative way of living your life. Living a life that’s more about passion. A life that is more about doing what you love. So, Nomad Coach was born.
What Is Nomad Couch?
It is a site about Nomadic Entrepreneurship. It’s about building an online based business that conforms to your nomadic lifestyle. If you’ve ever wondered if it’s possible to run a business that enables you to do what you love, travel the world and truly live your life to the fullest. It really is. It’s just a matter of having your life & business systems in place. You’ve probably heard the phrase “lifestyle design”? Add one more word to the mix and you’ve just described what Nomad Couch is fundamentally all about: (Nomadic) Lifestyle Business Design.
From this site, you will find answers to questions like:
- What kind of processes and systems do I need to have in place before I can run and manage my business while I’m on the road? – Systems, processes, workflows.. the step-by-steps.
- What kind of products and services are ideal for this kind of lifestyle and how do I build and sell them? – Where does the money come from?
- What kind of product delivery channels, websites and tools do I need and how do I configure them? In short: How do I set up my online stage? – The Geeky stuff.. kind of!

My Path To This Point – Why Should You Listen?

Before 2008, it was very clear to me that I wanted to build a strong corporate career. I could vision myself climbing up the corporate latter.. from software developer, to consultant, to manager..all the way to the very top. The way it works, I thought. Then something odd happened. One night, out of nowhere – one question popped in my mind. Career or entrepreneurship? What could possibly be the perfect combination that would combine my passion for all things web and the love I had for traveling? Call it an enlightenment or something else.. that night changed the way I saw my life.
Online based nomadic entrepreneurship. That’s what I had been passionate about for the whole time. I had been working with all things web for many years, but it never came to me that the real thing I was interested about was nomadic online business. So, in order to fulfill my passion, I REALLY needed to start learning and taking concrete steps towards my goal of becoming an nomadic online business owner. And I did.
What I’ve been doing after office hours for the last 3 years or so: I’ve been focusing my energy on learning ALL THERE IS TO KNOW about building and running an online based nomadic business. During that process, I’ve read countless books(4HWW, Trust Agents, Crush It, E-Myth, Work The System, etc.), participated in Internet Business Courses (Project Mojave, Wealthy Affiliate University, 12 Week Challenge, etc.), watched and learned through videos(Internet Business Mastery, Location Independent, Virtual CEO, Tropical MBA, Smart Passive Income, The InfoPreneur, etc.), participated in conversations on building online businesses (GateJumper, Warrior Forum, way too many blogs to name here!). And maybe the biggest learning experience of them all, I wrote my master’s thesis on the subject of Nomadic Entrepreneurship Revenue Models (I’m writing an e-book version of the thesis as we speak. Bottom line: What a ride it’s been! I have a pretty strong feeling I’ve learned a thing or two during the years. Now it’s time to share. This site is where it’s all going down. I’m thrilled to have you here with me. Welcome to Nomad Couch!
